Kenyon College is a private liberal arts college in Gambier, which is a village in Knox County, in the US state of Ohio, with nearly 1900 people, living within its limits, at the time of the 2000 census.
The college was established in 1824 and was founded by Bishop Philander Chase of The Episcopal Church, in parallel with the Bexley Hall seminary. It is the oldest private institution of higher education in the state and it is renowned for its campus, which is noted for its Collegiate Gothic architecture and rustic setting, and which was named one of the most beautiful college campuses in the world, by Forbes, in 2010.
Kenyon offers its students `35 majors leading to a bachelor's degree. In addition, the College offers 11 concentrations; pre-professional advising for graduate or professional school in business, education, engineering, law, and medicine; and a number of cooperative programs involving other institutions.`
Kenyon College's athletic teams are known as the Lords and Ladies, and they compete in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are purple and white.
